Positive Behaviour for Learning

At Sophia College, our Student Behaviour Support Policy is centred on understanding behaviours rather than simply reacting to them. It prioritises relationships, personal responsibility, and informed choice. Our approach is proactive and preventative, fostering a positive culture that supports student growth and development. We provide opportunities for reconciliation and redirection, ensuring students can embrace fresh beginnings.

As a community, we believe that every individual deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, underpinned by fair and just processes. Behaviour support is a shared responsibility, involving students, staff, and parents in developing responsible, engaged citizens.

Sophia College follows the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) framework, which is embedded in our practices, processes, and relationships. PB4L is not a program but a way of working that promotes learning, capability building, and the use of data to drive effective, evidence-based practices.

For further details, please refer to the PB4L Matrix below.

Matrix titled “Positive Behaviours for Learning (PB4L)” with columns for contexts: classroom, outside, community, interacting with ICT, and wider community. Rows are organised by expectations including respect for learning, respect for integral ecology, respect for faith, and respect in engagement with others. Each cell lists example behaviours such as active participation, caring for the environment, respectful communication, appropriate technology use, and representing the college positively. Includes Sophia College crest and the phrase “Wisdom and Love.”
