Sophia Stillness

Research indicates that active engagement in daily meditation leads to reduced levels of stress, anxiety and depression, improved performance and concentration, and increased compassion and empathy. Sophia Stillness is a direct response to this and aims to provide staff and students with 4 minutes of stillness and quiet reflection to connect with oneself, and all creation.

At 12.08pm each day, a chime rings calling the entire College community to be still. From 12.08-12.12pm music is played to assist the community to focus on their breath and let go of their thoughts.

Informational poster titled “Sophia Stillness” outlining a daily stillness practice. Introductory text explains a chime at 12:30 invites the college community to be still, followed by music from 12:31–12:35. Five numbered steps are shown with simple line illustrations: sit still with straight back, gently close eyes, focus on breathing and listening, let go of thoughts and return attention to breath, and allow distractions to pass. Sophia College crest and “Set for Life” appear at the bottom.
